Seanamarena Basotho Heritage Blanket - Salmon and Brown
Seanamarena Basotho Heritage Blanket - Salmon and Brown
These beautiful traditional handwoven blankets come from the Kingdom of Lesotho in southern Africa. They were first introduced in the late 19th century. This specific style of blanket is called Seanamarena.
Seanamarena blankets are often given as gifts during special occasions such as weddings, funerals and initiation ceremonies. They are also worn as a symbol of pride and status during traditional events and ceremonies.
The blankets are made from a high quality wool blend that is sourced from local sheep and Angora goats. The wool is spun into yarn and dyed using natural plant-based dyes, resulting in a range of vibrant colours and patterns. Men wear the blankets with the darker side out, whilst women wear the blanket with the lighter side out. When wearing the blanket, the stripes should be vertical in orientation - symbolizing growth and prosperity.
Seanamarana blankets have gained in huge popularity internationally since the first Black Panther movie came out.
With proper care, a Seanamarana blankets can last for decades, making them a valuable heirloom to pass down to future generations.
